Moises Baez is a New York-based artist, known as “Moisé” and “Mrbstyles”. He became known for his unique style as a talented Latin Salsa Singer, Professional Salsa Dancer and Choreographer.
Moises Baez is a gay, Puerto Rican male born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. He was introduced to a form of dance called Salsa On2 at the young age of eleven by Victor & Burju from Hacha Y Machete Dance Company. During this introduction to Salsa and the music, Moises formed an affinity for the cultural expression it gave him. He found an identity there that could help him form his own growing identity as an adult and an artist.
Moises began performing professionally with a teen dance group called Mamboyou at the age of fourteen. Shortly after, he continued his dance training with April Genovese the Director of Melaza Dance Company. In addition to salsa dance, Moises trained in in Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary and Afro-Cuban dance.
At the age of twenty-one, Moises launched his own dance program in the city of Boston called Out Salsa Boston. This program helped bring the art of salsa dance to the gay community. Through this program, Moises established a professional partnership with fellow ballet principle Jose Rodriguez. Together Moises and Jose performed both professionally and taught salsa as well as other forms of dance expression in the greater Boston area.
On May 10, 2021 Moisé released his latest new single titled “Ay! Que Bueno”, the music video directed by Juan Pablo Ramirez. He is currently working on his first album “Soy Yo”.
Exclusive Interview with Artist Moisé
NY Elite: Tell us a little about yourself as an artist.
Moisé: Being influenced by Latin music all of my life through dance, I’ve always known myself for being daring and having a lot of fun. What makes me different is my eye and ear that I have for Salsa.
NY Elite: How did you get started and how would you describe your music?
Moisé: Being a Professional Dancer in the midst of the pandemic, I found myself not doing anything and I’ve always wanted to sing so I decided to seize the opportunity and just go for it. My music is very tropical and fun and full of Latin spice
NY Elite: What does art mean to you?
Moisé: Art for me is a form of expression from what one feels inside. As a dancer and now Musician it’s an amazing feeling to be able to show the world the true colors of what I feel inside.
NY Elite: What projects are you currently working on?
Moisé: Well, I just released my latest single “Ay! Que Bueno” that I was very fortunate to be able to shoot the music video alongside many talented artists. I am also working on finishing my first album “Soy Yo”.
NY Elite: Where was your last performance?
Moisé: Tonitas in Williamsburg.
NY Elite: Where would you most like to perform and tell us about some of your favorite projects you have been part of.
Moisé: A Singer’s Dream to be able to sell out a performance center like Madison Square Garden, or the TD Garden back home in Boston.
NY Elite: If you could try a new genre of music, what would it be?
Moisé: Probably Latin Pop/ soft Rock and also Maybe some cross over to the English market.
NY Elite: Do you enjoy writing music and/or lyrics?
Moisé: Yes, It’s like storytelling.
NY Elite: Do you play any instruments?
Moisé: NO! But I am learning to play the Piano and Congas!
NY Elite: What hidden talents do you have?
Moisé: I am a Professional Salsa Dancer and a Hidden Comedian (Charlatan*** In Spanish)
NY Elite: Who Are Your Musical Influences?
Moisé: Wow this one is Tough as they are many. I would say “David Bustamante” of Spain. Also Kevin Ceballo, Dominic El Salsero, Aris Martinez and Marc Anthony.
NY Elite: What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?
Moisé: Don’t be afraid to explore the avenue and also be authentically yourself. Don’t let anyone put you down and look within yourself for all of the answers you need. Be original and work hard, it will take time but if you work hard and put your best foot forward it will happen the way you want it to.
NY Elite: What can we expect from you this year? Any tour plans?
Moisé: Well! My album first and foremost, but yes! There are tour plans in the works. I am working on some local projects here in NY and also the northeast such as Boston and the surrounding area. I am looking forward to reaching as many people I can to enjoy and celebrate with all!
